why is wearing a motorcycle possibly a bad thing?

what about a helmet cause/increases the chance of an accident? such as how it blocks vision. i need evidence as well; a situation where someone was in an accident BECAUSE of their helmet.

Are you kidding me? A full face helmet is the best possible protection, and it saves lives! Even if it blocks your vision slightly it is definitely worth wearing, because people can die on motorcycles at very slow speeds if they aren't wearing a helmet.

Plus bugs and other debris can get into your eyes and reduce your vision even more, so in the end I honestly see no downside to wearing a helmet.

*Update*: Dimo J, first of all, I just weighed my helmet and it came in at 3.6 pounds (and it only cost me about $50). I wore this helmet for 6 hours two days in a row when I took the MSF course and at the end of each day every single part of my body was as sore as could be...except for my neck. If a skinny little girl like me can handle wearing it with no neck pain, anyone can.

Secondly, did you ever consider that those states with higher death per accident rates have something else that is causing this disparity? Perhaps more people ride in those states, or there are other laws (or lack of which) that are causing more fatal accidents. For example, here in CA it is technically legal to "lane split" which would definitely affect our accident rate regardless of the fact that we require riders to wear helmets.

Do yourself a favor and see if you can locate the cause of death in those accidents, I can guarantee you that a significant portion of them will not be related to head injuries. And lastly, helmet laws don't require people to wear reliable, full face helmets. As far as I am concerned any helmet that doesn't cover one's entire head is essentially useless, unless of course one doesn't mind losing all of their teeth and the use of their jaw.

Ride safely and ALWAYS wear a full face helmet, nothing else is worth the risk!
